Leadership Course – September launch

We are pleased to be partnering with the SSAT to launch this new course in September in Cornwall with our accredited trainers.

Background and history of The NAML

The National Award for Middle Leaders (NAML) is part of the national suite of leadership programmes provided by SSAT for school leaders at all stages of their development. SSAT leadership programmes were founded in 2002 and since that time over 9000 teachers and school leaders have benefitted from our high quality leadership training. The NAML is built upon the Middle Leaders Programme which was established during the growth of the academies movement to provide sponsored academies with cohesive and inspiring on-site training for their middle leadership to fully equip middle leaders for their roles and responsibilities as the engine room of school improvement. Since this time the programme has been continually reviewed and refined, being delivered to academies and non-academies.

Why are SSAT licencing schools to deliverer The NAML?

There is a need for nationally recognised, accredited and quality assured leadership programmes. During the past five years the schools system and wider educational structures that support it have undergone significant change. A schools led self-improving system is becoming an increasing reality, with growth in school-to-school collaborative partnerships, Multi Academy Trusts and Teaching Schools. The ‘by schools, for schools’ principle is one SSAT have long advocated – we have always worked with schools to share the best of national practice across our network. In addition, schools now have greater powers of autonomy over their finances and are developing their own commercial revenue streams through the sharing of expertise. Alongside this are the changes at the National College which will see the end of licencing of NPQH, NPQSL and NPQML programmes from 2016. It is these factors combined with SSAT’s well-established reputation for leadership development that make this the right time to launch the licencing of the National Award for Middle Leaders.
