‘Most Likely To Succeed’ film screening 8th July

We are pleased to be hosting a screening of the acclaimed and thought-provoking feature-length documentary ‘Most Likely To Succeed’ on 8th July after our conference.

Director, writer and producer Greg Whiteley examines the shortcomings of conventional education methods in today’s changing world. Whitely takes his cameras to a new and unconventional school in San Diego. High Tech High, where project-based learning is a central precept. As Whiteley points out, High Tech students do quite well on conventional measures of success even though the school’s focus is on engaging and inspiring its students.

‘For all of human history the primary focus of education has been about acquiring more content knowledge. Today content is ubiquitous. It’s free. It’s on every Internet-connected device.’ Tony Wagner of Harvard Innovation Lab.

We are showing the film on Friday 8th July at the Newlyn Filmhouse. Drinks/nibbles from 5pm and screening at 6pm. Further details and tickets available here:

Stephen Heppell. Stephen’s ‘eyes on the horizon, feet on the ground’ approach, coupled with a vast portfolio of effective large scale projects over three decades, have established him internationally as a widely and fondly recognized leader in the fields of learning, new media and technology. A school teacher for more than a decade, and a professor since 1989, Stephen has worked, and is working, with learner led projects, with governments around the world, with international agencies, Fortune 500 companies, with schools and communities, with his PhD students and with many influential trusts and organisations.

Hywel Roberts. Hywel is a teacher, author and educationalist working with many schools, colleges, universities and other educational organisations across the UK and beyond. From basic but great classroom pedagogy to developing a blended brave curriculum to teacher coaching, leadership development and mentoring (also including TA, AST, NQT development and cover supervisor training) to wonderfully innovative and life-changing strategies such as ‘Mantle of the Expert’, Hywel covers – and practices – a whole variety of approaches that make learning real for young people and delivers his work with an energy and a humour which is quite, quite infectious.
